SAVE A LIFE---Adopt A Black Cat

DID YOU KNOW THAT BLACK CATS have the lowest adoption rate and the highest euthanasia rate?

Whether because of superstition, prejudice, or simply because they blend into the shadows in the back of the cage, black cats are statistically less likely to be adopted than more brightly colored felines.

Many rescues are reluctant to accept black cats into their program as they are so hard to re-home, meanwhile these wonderful cats are left waiting in pounds and municipal shelters with hopes of finding a loving home, only to be destroyed once their time is up.

Most adopters prefer the flashier, more colorful cats, such as the orange and calico's and often overlook these regal & exotic looking beauties. Yet the black cat is probably the gentlest of all breeds and the smartest.

They were always considered good luck in England and are still considered good luck throughout most of Europe.

If you are thinking of adopting, please consider adopting a black cat, you are truly saving a life!!!

They have so much love to offer and ask for so little in return.

Most of the black cats that we have rescued, have had the most wonderful, and loving personalities.

BLACK CATS RULE!!!

Cat Versus Kitten

Perhaps because kittens are so very appealing, adult cats have the lowest adoption rates at many shelters.

While prospective adopters head straight for the kitten section, hundreds of thousands of adult cats purr hopefully in their cages, and thrust their soft paws beseechingly through the bars as if they understand the importance of catching someone's attention.

Too many never get a second chance and that's a real shame.

It's a tragedy for the cats of course, but it's also unfortunate for many people who don't realize that an adult cat may, in many cases be a better choice.

You know pretty well what you're getting with a grown cat---activity level, sociability, and health.

Given time in a loving environment, a grown cat forms just as tight a bond with his new people as any kitten can, and we believe that in some cases recycled pets are more appreciative, somehow, of a chance at a happy life.

Adopting a Cat

Please Help us save the lives of one of these wonderful little creatures that enrich our lives so much.

REMEMBER!!!! Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment of 15 years or more.

It is sometimes difficult to resist a cute kitten but all kittens quickly become cats, and when the novelty wears off, that cute kitten, now a young cat more often than not, ends up in the pound on death row.

Most cats turned into the pound are between 6 mos to 2 yrs of age.

Consider long and hard when adopting and don't make an impulse decision.

Do your research and ask yourself whether or not you have time needed to care for a pet, although cats are more independent than dogs, they still require care and attention.

Ask yourself some important questions. Does your current lifestyle seem to fit with the responsibility needed to own a cat. Do you travel frequently, are busy with work, kids or school?

Adoption Process

Thank you for choosing to look for your family's new animal companion - and friend for life - at the Forgotten Ones Cat Rescue!

By adopting from an animal shelter you are providing a wonderful animal with a second chance.  Below is an overview of our adoption process to help you understand what you can expect.

Volunteer staff are responsible for protecting the best interests of the animals in their care and our adoption process reflects the goal of finding all animals the best home possible.

Step 1: Once you have seen or met one of our cats you are interested in adopting we ask you to complete an adoption application.  All the information requested on the application form is important and allows volunteer staff to make the most appropriate decisions for the animal.  Completing an application does not obligate you to adopt a cat from our organization.  It helps us to determine whether the cat will be a good fit with your family and that the adopter is serious about the prospect of owning a new cat.

Step 2: Volunteer staff will review your completed application and if you appear to be a potentially suitable home for the animal(s), you will be contacted either by email or phone.  Staff will let you know if there are any points on your application that require further clarification.

Step 3: In the adoption interview, staff will review your application with you and discuss your ability to meet the needs of the animal(s) you wish to adopt.  You may be asked additional questions or be provided with more detailed information regarding the animal(s) you've applied for.

Step 4: Following the interview, staff will let you know if you are a good match - and if so, the adoption will proceed!  Some of our animals are lucky enough to receive more than one adoption application.  In that case, we must choose the most suitable family.  We encourage these applicants to consider some of the other less fortunate animals that are still waiting for their second chance and a new home.

Step 5: Once you have been approved for an adoption there is additional paperwork to complete and an adoption fee to be paid before you can take your new friend(s) home.  The adoption fee covers the following services and allows Forgotten Ones - a charitable organization - to recoup a small portion of the costs incurred providing care and/or rehabilitation to the animals.  You must have a suitable cat carrier to take home your new friend.

If you have any questions regarding the adoption process please call us at (905)770-4851 or email info@forgottenones.ca
